Obituary

Kathryn “Kathy” Jane Steele was born on December 3, 1940, on the family farm in Paddock Township, Minnesota. She was one of fourteen children of John and Ruth (Keksi) Kyro. Kathy was baptized and confirmed in the Apostolic Finnish Church in Runeberg Township, Minnesota, and was rebaptized into the Catholic Church in 1964. It was a one mile walk to the one room school house she attended from first grade through eighth grade. She spent her high school years in Sebeka High graduating with the Class of 1958. Kathy worked at several insurance firms in Minneapolis and Duluth. Moving to Park Rapids, Minnesota, she worked at Ringer Company doing seamstress work.

On October 10, 1964, Kathy was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Steele at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Park Rapids, Minnesota. In 1965, they moved to Hutchinson, Minnesota. Kathy worked as a nurse’s aide at Burns Manor Nursing Home and later at the Sewing Basket, retiring in 1998. This marriage was blessed with three children, Deborah, Daniel, and Michael. They shared 52 years of marriage together.

Kathy was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson.   

Kathy enjoyed doing most any kind of crafts, including painting, sewing, cross-stitching, woodworking, decorating, flowers, and canning pickles and salsa for her family. She also enjoyed reading and traveling, her favorite places to travel were Alaska and the North Shore. She cherished the time she spent time with her family, grandchildren, and friends.

Kathy passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the St. Cloud Hospital, at the age of 76 years.
