Obituary
Lawrence Albert Biermann was born on July 13, 1928, in Glencoe, Minnesota, the son of Albert and Minnie (Templin) Biermann. He was bapitzed on August 5, 1928 and confirmed in his faith March 29, 1942, both by Rev. Dysterheft at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, Glencoe. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in District 39.
Lawrence was united in marriage to Ruth Horrmann on November 21, 1946. They made their home at Lawrence's family farm in Helen Township, where he engaged in farming with his father and also served as Township Constable. Lawrence and Ruth were blessed with five children – Bruce, Kathleen, Bradford, Patrice, and Brian – and enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage.
From 1958 to 1963, Lawrence and Ruth owned and operated Lawrence's Bar in Glencoe, where they had countless good times with friends and family, the stories of which he told for decades to come. In 1963, Lawrence began work as a boilerman and engineer for Bongards Creamery, where he worked until retirement. The family moved to their home in Norwood in 1967, and Lawrence and Ruth moved to The Harbor at Peace Village in 2014.
Lawrence loved to hunt and fish, and eagerly looked forward to deer hunting in Cook, Minnesota, a trip that took place every year for over 50 years. As a youth, he was actively involved in 4-H, and continued to serve as a leader as an adult. As a proud father and grandfather, Lawrence attended countless numbers of band and choir concerts, theater productions, and sporting events. His pride in his children and grandchildren was made evident by his loud cheering, his laughing smile, and his teary eyes. Lawrence enjoyed going dancing with Ruth, spending time at the family cabin on Lake Koronis, having morning coffee at Midtown Cafe, and visiting with everyone he met, whether it was at the post office, the grocery store, or – most frequently – on the front porch of his home.
More than anything, Lawrence was a servant of the church. He was blessed with a magnificent singing voice, which he shared as a soloist for over 1000 funerals and 850 weddings. He served two terms as Chairman of the Congregation at St. John's Lutheran Church in Young America, where he was also Chairman of the Building Committee and Chairman of the Stewardship Committee. He also served as Chairman for the Crusader Crusade, and faithfully supported Mayer Lutheran High School.
Lawrence passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at his home at The Harbor at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 10 days. Blessed be his memory.
