Leona Karg, age 92, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away Monday, October 23, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral Services will be Friday, October 27, 2017, 1:00 P.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Acoma Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Leona Helen Karg was born on July 20, 1925, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Herman and Edna (Steffen) Raether. Leona was baptized as an infant on August 9, 1925 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Acoma Township by Pastor Fischer. She was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on May 1, 1938 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Voigt. She received her education at Immanuel Lutheran School, and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School Class of 1943. Leona was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
On November 4, 1945, Leona was united in marriage to Edwin Karg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Acoma Township by Pastor W. G. Voigt. This marriage was blessed with one son, Larry. Leona and Edwin resided in Acoma Township. She spent her entire life on her family farm which was a century farm. They shared 58 years of marriage together until Edwin passed away on January 11, 2004.
Leona worked at Montgomery Wards, Hartwigs Clothing, and Audrey’s Drive-In while being a loving farm wife and homemaker to her husband and son.
Leona was an active and lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Acoma Township and was a member of the Ladies Aid group, Sunday school teacher, treasurer of AAL, and a branch member of Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of Good Sam’s. Leona helped Edwin found and establish the Upper Midwest Allis-Chambers Club in 1991 and sponsored the Orange Spectacular on the farm for 20 years.
Leona enjoyed playing bingo and cards, camping, traveling, watching birds, and caring for her pet cats and dogs. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
In 2010, when Leona needed help with her daily care, she moved to Prince of Peace Retirement Home in Hutchinson for seven years until she became a resident of Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson on July 26, 2017. She passed away there on Monday, October 23, 2017, at the age of 92 years.

Son, Larry Karg and his wife, Joan, of Hutchinson, MN; nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Leona is preceded in death by her Parents, Herman and Edna Raether; and Husband, Edwin Karg; Brothers and Sisters-In-Law, Peter Karg, Henry and Elsie Karg, John and Leila Karg, Phil and Shirley Karg, Elsie and Orville Olson, Mary and Alex Trippel, and Betty and Wilbert Bohnen.
