Leonard Walquist, age 72, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017, at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Private Family Services will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minnesota.
Memorials are preferred to the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (Oncology Unit), One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417 or the Fisher House, One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417.
Obituary
Leonard Allen Walquist was born on January 18, 1945, in Willmar, Minnesota. He was the son of Archie Markus and Elsie Marie (Frisk) Walquist. He received his education in New London and was a graduate of the New London High School Class of 1963.
Leonard entered active military service in the United States Navy on September 19, 1963, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and served his country during the Vietnam War. He received an Honorable Discharge from active duty and transferred to the naval reserve on September 18, 1967, at Naval Reserve Manpower Center in Bainbridge, Maryland, and achieved the rank of LI3.
On December 18, 1965, Leonard was united in marriage to Gwen Rud in Willmar. This marriage was blessed with two children, Scott and Shane. Leonard and Gwen resided in San Diego, California, Atwater, Minnesota, and then moved to Hutchinson, Minnesota, in 1969. They shared 51 years of marriage together.
Leonard worked as a printer for 46 years at New London Times, Standard Printing, Crow River Press, and Lynn Card Company. He retired in 2007.
Leonard was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge #109 in Hutchinson and the New London American Legion Post #537.
Leonard enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling, going to the casino, fishing and was a kid at heart. He cherished his time with his family especially his grandchildren and friends.
Leonard passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System in Minneapolis at the age of 72 years.

Sons, Scott Walquist and his wife, Amy, of Princeton, MN,
Shane Walquist and Tim Rasmussen, of Rochester, MN;
Grandchildren, Tate and Drew Walquist, and Braden Klassen;
Siblings, Alice (Bob) DeGrote, Dorothy (Byron) Klemmetson, Helen Peterson, Bob Walquist, Judy (Jim) Braeger;
Many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Leonard is preceded in death by his, Parents, Archie and Elsie Walquist; Mother-in-Law and Father-In-Law, Clifton and Violet Rud; Sister-In-Law, Norma Walquist; Brother-In-Law, Norman Peterson; Nephew, Alan Brunsberg.
