Service Information
Lillian “Lilly” Dammann, age 85, of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, died on Friday, November 16, 2018, at Cedar Crest in Silver Lake, Minnesota.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2018, 2:30 P.M. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, with interment following at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, and will continue one hour prior the service at the church on Wednesday.
Obituary
Lillian “Lilly” Gertrude (Benkowski) Dammann was born on February 22, 1933, in Bergen Township, Lester Prairie, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Ewald and Augusta (Klaustermeier) Benkowski. Lillian was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her Lutheran faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran School and Lester Prairie High School.
On September 19, 1950, Lillian was united in marriage to Wilmer Dammann at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Lilly and Wilmer made their home in Lester Prairie, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Faye, Daniel, Peggy, Cindy, Thomas and Amy. Lilly and Wilmer shared over 40 years of marriage until Wilmer passed away on May 23, 1991.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Lilly worked at Schubert’s Grocery Store in Lester Prairie, Faye’s Foods in Glencoe and later enjoyed cleaning houses. Lilly was a faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
In her younger years, Lilly enjoyed playing the trumpet and clarinet, ice skating and playing softball, where she was the star pitcher for her team. She loved playing cards, dancing, raising and butchering chickens, planting a vegetable garden and then canning from that garden. Lilly especially enjoyed decorating her home for all of the holidays. In her short time at Cedar Crest, she made many friends with the staff members and residents. She became known as the “Candy Lady”. Lilly treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
Lillian passed away peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2018, at Cedar Crest in Silver Lake, Minnesota, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 25 days.
