Lloyd Arthur Harold Duenow, age 91, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2024, 11:00 A.M., at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment following in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 21, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M., at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe and will continue 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
Military Honors by the Glencoe Military Honor Guard.
Obituary
Lloyd Arthur Harold Duenow was born on November 5, 1932, in Sumter Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Alfred and Ida (Kohls) Duenow. Lloyd was baptized on November 20, 1932, by Rev. Henry Weerts at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, Minnesota. Lloyd was confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 30, 1947, by Pastor John Bradtke at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington, Minnesota. Lloyd’s confirmation verse was “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7. Lloyd received his education in Arlington, Minnesota.
Lloyd entered military service with the United States Army on March 6, 1953, at Camp Gordon in Georgia. He served in Germany for 18 ½ months in the Signal Corp as a Cpl. E4. He was presented with the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Lloyd received an honorable discharge on February 28, 1955, at Fort Sheridan in Illinois.
On November 9, 1955, Lloyd was united in marriage to Donna Mae Pagel at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. The couple only shared 11 ½ months together when Donna passed away on October 25, 1956, along with an infant son who passed away on October 8, 1956. On August 13, 1958, Lloyd was united in marriage to Grace Marie Petzel by Pastor George Matthiae at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord, Minnesota. Lloyd and Grace made their home in Gaylord, Winthrop, and later moved to Glencoe, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Brian and Bradley. Lloyd and Grace shared over 40 years together when Grace passed away on September 8, 1998.
Lloyd was first employed at the Grain Elevator in Gaylord, following that he was employed at the Meat Market in New Auburn and in Winthrop. After moving to Glencoe, he began working at the Portable elevator in Glencoe and worked there for 24 years. Before Lloyd’s retirement in January 1995, he worked at Waldbaums/Crystal Foods which is now known as Michael Foods in Gaylord. He was an active member at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, as an usher there. He was a member of the Glencoe American Legion Post #95 and presented with their color guard. Lloyd was a member of the Glencoe VFW Post #5102; serving as a chaplain, a judge advocate, and presented with their color guard. Lloyd was also a member of the Glencoe Sportsmen’s Club, and the Last Man’s Standing Club (fellow veterans who served during the Korean War) in Gaylord.
Lloyd enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and tending to his gardens. He loved to keep his lawn pristine. Lloyd enjoyed playing cards, especially Sheepshead and Buck Euchre. Lloyd was a hardworking family man with a fantastic sense of humor. He loved getting to know people and got along with everybody he met. Lloyd enjoyed listening to Polka music and was a proud donor to the Red Cross Blood Drive having donated 112 times and over 32 gallons of blood over his lifetime. Bus trips with friends to Jackpot Casino was something he looked forward to over the years. Lloyd greatly cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
Lloyd passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota, at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 10 days. Blessed be his memory.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Petzel Duenow, his first wife, Donna Pagel Duenow, and their infant son; Father and Mother, Alfred and Ida Duenow; Brother, Marvin (Marie) Duenow; Sisters, Florence Duenow, Jeanette (Marlyn) Barfknecht, Bernice (Kenny) Tuchtenhagen; Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law, Vivian Duenow, Emma (Marvin) Pagel, Harold (Tillie) Petzel, Lawrence (Mary Jo) Petzel; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Herman and Elsie Petzel.
