Service Information
Margaret Draeger, age 99, of Winthrop passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Funeral Service will be Friday, April 28, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 27, 2017, from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour before the service on Friday at the church.
Obituary
Margaret Clara Draeger was born on June 27, 1917, in Penn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Carl and Ida (Hantge) Opitz. Margaret was baptized as an infant on July 22, 1917, by Pastor George Diemer and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 29, 1931, by Pastor Walter Diemer at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township. She received her education at District #64 Country School.
On June 26, 1944, Margaret was united in marriage to Bernhard Draeger by Pastor J.H. Kolberg at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township. After their marriage, the couple resided in Winthrop. Margaret worked three years at the Winthrop Bakery for Al and Ione Honl. She worked another three years at Green Giant in Winthrop. Then Margaret worked for Marge Lindstrand at Lyle’s Café for 45 years. This was Margaret’s pride and joy working for Marge Lindstrand. Then Margaret worked 10 years at Hands in Winthrop. Margaret and Bernhard shared 31 years of marriage before Bernhard passed away on October 18, 1975.
Margaret was a lifelong resident of Winthrop. She moved into Sibley Estates in 2009. She spent many enjoyable days with her special friends at the Sibley Estates.
Margaret was a life time member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop. She was treasurer and held various jobs in the Ladies Guild.
Margaret enjoyed baking, yard work, playing cards, and gatherings at Sibley Estates. She was well known for her famous German potato salad. Margaret looked forward to her visits with Pastor.
Margaret passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center in Arlington at the age 99 years. Blessed be her memory.

Sister-In-Law, Iona Opitz of Glencoe, MN;
Many Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her Husband, Bernhard Draeger; Parents, Carl and Ida Opitz; Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law; Brothers, Leonard and his wife, Mardell, Edwin and his wife, Lorna, Theophil and his wife, Esther, and Elsworth Opitz; Sisters, Elizabeth Podratz and her husband, Roland, and Evelyn Raeth and her husband, Ervin.
