Margaret Mary Maiers was born February 10, 1921, in the City of Stewart, Collins Township, McLeod County, Minnesota, the daughter of Peter and Nora (Lambert) Forcier. She was baptized on February 20, 1921, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart, and confirmed there on November 4, 1936. Margaret grew up in Stewart, and later moved with her family to Preston Lake Township in Renville County. She received her education at St. Boniface Catholic School, and graduated with the Class of 1939 from the Stewart High School.
On February 27, 1946, Margaret was united in marriage to Paul Maiers at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart. They made their home in Round Grove Township where they raised their family. Margaret and Paul managed a busy life of farming and a dairy operation, and she loved her role as a homemaker and mother. They had shared 62 years of marriage when Paul passed away on June 22, 2008. Margaret continued living independently on their farm until April of this year when she moved into St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
Margaret was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart throughout her life, and was involved with the Christian Mothers Organization. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Stewart for 21 years.
Margaret and Paul enjoyed traveling in later years, visiting various states, with an especially fun trip to Hawaii. Margaret enjoyed embroidering, gardening, and also loved watching her birds. She was a great cook and baker, and was known for her apple pie and cinnamon rolls. Until this past year, she loved making rhubarb jam. Margaret was well known for her Ole and Lena jokes, which were especially entertaining to her grandchildren. Her number one love and favorite pastime was spending time with her family.
