Obituary
Marie Esther Jean Kingstrom was born on October 7, 1926, at home in Bandon Township, Minnesota. She was the third daughter of Albert and Esther (Anderson) Kingstrom. Marie was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at Palmyra Community Bible Church (Formerly Palmyra Covenant Church) in Palmyra Township, Minnesota. She received her education in Bird Island, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Bird Island High School Class of 1944.
Marie lived on the family farm, helping her parents maintain the house and gardens, feeding the people who worked the farm for them. She was a sales representative with Avon Products and traveled the country-side, taking orders, then delivering them, having coffee and visiting wherever she went. When she retired, she moved to St. Louis Park to live with her sister Janice Nielsen. Marie was a lifelong member of Palmyra Covenant Church. She was also a member of First Evangelical Free Church in Minneapolis.
Marie enjoyed being involved with her church. At Palmyra, she taught Sunday School, VBS, took her turn cleaning, and cooked or baked for every event the church held. At the Free Church in Minneapolis, she and her sister Janice were involved with Women’s Ministries, Bible Studies, and cared for young children while their moms participated in a Bible Study.
Marie especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She often went to her sisters’ and brother’s homes, helped care for her nieces and nephews, cooked and cleaned, or helped them prepare for family gatherings. Her nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, have many great memories of spending time with “Auntie Me”, both on the farm and later in the cities.
In 2014, Marie moved to Prairie View in Hector, Minnesota after her sister Janice passed away, then later to Buffalo Lake Health Care Center when she required more assistance and care. Marie passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Buffalo Lake Health Care Center in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, at the age of 97 years.
Marie is survived by her many nieces, nephews, and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Esther Kingstrom; sisters, Ruth (Keith) Dickmeyer, Janice (Helmer) Nielsen; Alleyne (Gilbert) Frank; brother, Paul Kingstrom and sister-in-law, Joan Kingstrom; and brothers-in-law, Keith Dickmeyer, Helmer Nielsen, and Gilbert Frank. Also, nephews, Daniel Nielsen and Dale Dickmeyer; nieces, Nancy Nielsen Bechtold and Ann Kingstrom; and great nephews, Michael Dickmeyer and Timothy Tyrell.
Marie will be buried at the Palmyra Community Bible Church Cemetery in a private, family graveside service.
The family requests Memorials be given to Olivia Hospice in lieu of flowers.

Marie was such a a wonderful, caring, generous woman! I got to know her when my husband, Pastor Tom Klasen, and I were serving at Palmyra Covenant Church. Peace to her memory!

Marie’s family were close neighbors to my grandparents, so I knew the Kingstrom family ‘way back when! I remember walking with my parent at one Renville County Fair, when I was so enthralled with the sights, I kept going slower and slower. At one point I reached out to take my mother’s hand, only to discover I was walking with the Kingstroms, and had taken Marie’s hand! Special memories of Marie.

Aunt Meme, you will be missed! You & your siblings were an excellent example of love, and more importantly God’s love. Your faith never wavered and you showed us how to love each other by example. You were a mother to all of us nieces and nephews and then our children. There’s so many things I will miss about you I could go on and on, but I will only mention one. I remember going with you on your Avon runs, and because I had been bitten by a dog when I was younger I was always afraid of dogs, but when I was with you, and your customer had a dog you would say, “Just stay by me, I’ll protect you.” My fear went away when I was holding your hand.
