Service Information
Marion Gander, age 89, of Hutchinson, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 23, 2017, at 2:00 PM, at Oak Heights Covenant Church in Hutchinson, with interment in the Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Obituary
Marion Elaine Gander was born July 27, 1927, in Ely, Minnesota. The daughter of Andrew J. and Tyne (Ojala) Herrala, she was raised in Ely, and attended the Finnish Lutheran Church. She was a 1945 graduate of the Ely High School and furthered her education at Vermillion Jr. College. After graduation, she was an executive secretary at Brown & Bigelow in St. Paul, Minnesota. Marion later returned to Ely and was the receptionist at radio station WXLT. While there, she had an on-air household advice show called “Miss-Elaine-ious.” The engineer working at the radio station was Darrel Gander.
On September 22, 1951, Marion was united in marriage to Darrel Gander at First Lutheran Church in Cloquet, Minnesota. They lived in Cloquet for two years before moving to Hutchinson, Minnesota, where they first lived in the basement apartment of KDUZ radio station. Marion and Darrel were blessed with three children. The couple shared 65 years of marriage.
Marion attended Bethany Baptist Church for many years, and later Oak Heights Covenant Church, both in Hutchinson. She had confidence in her personal faith in Jesus as her Savior and Lord.
Marion enjoyed staying home while raising her three children. She was known for her hospitality, her domestic skills, her selfless spirit, and supporting her children and husband. She joined Darrel on two occasions in Japan, teaching English and helping the staff while Darrel helped at a Christian radio station. Marion was later employed as a secretary for Culligan Water Conditioning in Hutchinson. She retired in 1990. Marion cherished the time she spent with her family and grandchildren.
Marion passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, surrounded by her family at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota at the age of 89 years.

Brothers, Calvin Herrala of Ely, MN, and Carl Herrala of Ely, MN;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marion was preceded in death by her Parents, Andrew and Tyne Herrala; Infant Brother, Henry; Sister, Carol Aho and her husband, Ray; Sister, Mildred Herrala; Brother, Richard Herrala and his wife, Delores; Sister-In-Law, Nancy Herrala; and Brothers-In-Law, Charles Erickson and Richard Ehrenberg.
