Obituary
Marita “Rita” Florence Danielson was born on April 11, 1934, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Carl Verner and Florence Marie (Nelson) Stromberg. Marita was baptized on April 20, 1934, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she also confirmed her faith on May 1, 1948. She attended J.J. Hill Grade School through the 8th grade, then attended Central High School, both in St. Paul, Minnesota. She graduated with the Class of 1951. She often spoke about spending summers at the family cabin on White Bear Lake where she loved to water ski.
Marita and Stan met in the summer of 1953 at the Gibbon Ballroom, while Marita was visiting her uncle and aunt in Fairfax, Minnesota. They were united in marriage on December 4, 1954, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. God blessed them with three sons and three daughters. Following their wedding, Marita and Stan moved to the family farm in Bandon Township. There the City girl became a farmer’s wife, with the help of her wonderful Mother-in-law, Marie Danielson. Stan and Rita continued to farm until 1996. They moved off the farm in 1999 to their home in Fairfax. During retirement Stan and Rita enjoyed camping and traveling to visit relatives and friends.
Rita was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Fairfax. She served on the board of the WELCA at Central, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and she loved making music with her friends in the Kitchen Klatter Band. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, reading and having coffee with her friends. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rita passed away peacefully at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan, Minnesota, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the age of 90 years. We are appreciative of the wonderful care Rita received from the doctors and staff at Fairview Southdale Hospital and Gil-Mor Manor, and the incredible Hospice staff.
