Obituary
Marlene Arene (Hahn) Stockmann was born on May 26, 1933, at home in Penn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Gerhart and Erna (Polzin) Hahn. Marlene was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn, Minnesota. She received her education in Glencoe, Minnesota, and graduated from Glencoe High School.
Marlene was an only child, and from an early age she dreamed of filling her life with a large, loving family. That dream began one unforgettable day when she met Maynard at a dance hall at the New Auburn Ballroom. She later shared that she knew from the very moment they met that he would be the one she would marry—a love story that would shape the rest of her life. On June 11, 1952, Marlene was united in marriage to Maynard Stockmann at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn. The couple shared over 34 years of marriage.
Together, Marlene and Maynard built a home centered on family. She worked tirelessly, embracing the challenges and joys of farm life while raising her 7 children. Marlene was an amazing baker, known for her delicious creations that she lovingly shared with family, friends, and her ladies' aid group. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, comfort, and connection.
Marlene had a special gift with children, especially babies, and found immense joy in her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her growing family, each one a reflection of the life she built with care and love.
After Maynard’s passing, Dean stepped in to help care for his mom. She cherished his company and the laughter they shared. Marlene especially enjoyed his cooking, and over time, she delighted in watching him become a wonderful baker as well.
When Marlene required extra care, Nancy welcomed her into her home, surrounding her with comfort, compassion, and love. With the support of her friend Jerry, their days were brightened by laughter and meaningful moments that brought joy to Marlene’s later years. She also deeply treasured the weekends she spent with her other daughters, each visit filled with her favorite food, baked treasures, lots of laughs, warmth and connection. Dean still picked Marlene up several times a week to go to the farm, otherwise known as the “Green Grass of Home.”
Marlene passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026. She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her generous heart, her talent in the kitchen, and her deep, unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to her family, and that will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
