Obituary
Marlene Irene (Jarcho) Loveland was born June 12, 1940, in Hutchinson, MN, the daughter of Albert and Hazel (Hackbarth) Jarcho. She was baptized July 7th, 1940 and then confirmed in faith as a youth at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Cedar Mills. Marlene grew up in rural Cosmos, and attended elementary school at the Country School, and graduated from the Cosmos High School with the Class of 1958. She continued her education at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. She lived in Minneapolis in the Girls Club and worked at a bank until she returned to Cosmos.
Marlene was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Loveland on January 4, 1964 at First Lutheran Church. They lived southeast of Cosmos on County Road 10, where they milked cows and raised pigs. Their first two of four daughters were born while living there. The family moved to Boon Lake where they continued to milk cows, but added more farm animals: pigs, milking goats, sheep, chickens, geese, and ducks. Marlene worked at the Cosmos Nursing Home as a nurses aid until their third daughter was born. The family moved back to Cosmos Township, again milking cows and raising several other animals throughout the years. This is where the last of the four daughters were born. Bob passed away on March 1, 2007, and Marlene continued to live on the farm.
Marlene worked and farmed alongside her husband, Bob. As her younger daughters grew to teens she was employed as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Cosmos Healthcare Center. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cosmos, where she taught Sunday School. Marlene was creative. She loved to decorate for all Holidays and Birthdays. Events were made special with her elaborately decorated cakes. She made homemade Barbie clothes, Barbie houses out of book shelves, extreme valentine boxes, homemade granola, pancakes, and muffins before school. She was the girls’ very own Pinterest. Marlene was an active 4-H Leader for the Cosmos Comets 4-H Club. She took great pleasure in planning gardens, with pathways full of unique plants, and a hideaway to sit back and relax. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge of gardening to anyone who would listen. Marlene felt it was important to be well informed of new things and sharing that knowledge. In the more recent years, she liked to spend time with her grandchildren and family, and watching the wildlife and birds from her kitchen window. As she became more homebound her cat, Mocha, and Jen, her home health aide, became an important part of her life. Though her activity level may have changed, she never lost her feisty personality. Marlene lived on her farm per her wishes until the end. Saturday morning, January 21, 2017, she passed away at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, having reached the age of 76 years. Blessed be her memory.

Pastor Dale H. Swartz says
Sorry to read of Marlene’s death. (Saw it on Jake’s FB page this evening.) I know her health had been declining for quite some time, but didn’t know that it had gotten that bad. Having your mother die is a difficult time for children know matter what age they are. I suffered your current pain back in 1991 and though it has been a long time, I still think of her often. No matter our relationships, Mothers always have a profound impact on our lives. Joy, I will be praying for you and Tom, and all of your siblings. Death is an enemy of which we have not control. It takes our loved ones from us; and although we may strive to prepare for this event, we’re never ready when it happens. I pray that God will provide you the comfort you need; the comfort that only He can give. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
