Service Information
Mary “Kay” C. Schweiss, age 77, of Fairfax passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 25, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Obituary
Mary “Kay” Catherine Schweiss was born on January 1, 1939, in Mankato, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Logan and Anastasia (Templin) Hager. Kay was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Clair, Minnesota. She received her primary education at country school in St. Clair and was a 1957 graduate of the St. Clair High School. She furthered her education for two years at Commercial College in Mankato. Kay was employed as a secretary for the City of Mankato.
On February 3, 1959, Kay was united in marriage to Francis Schweiss at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Clair, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple farmed in rural Fairfax. She was employed at John Carey Law Office and later at Jackpot Junction. She was a loving mother and homemaker.
Kay was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax and taught CCD. She was a member of the Christian Mother’s Group and St. Ann’s Aid. She was active in starting the church’s cook book “Not By Bread Alone.” Kay was the record keeper for the Fairfax Fire Department.
Kay enjoyed flower gardening, playing organ, dancing, shopping, cake decorating, knitting, crafting, and eating out. Kay was also an avid reader, and loved listening to old time and country western music. She was the world’s greatest cook and baker. Kay made cakes for proms, weddings and birthdays and won a number of awards for her cakes.
Kay passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center at the age of 77 years surrounded by her family. Blessed be her memory.

children, Denise (Jim) Brandel of Luverne, MN, and
Rita (Randy) Tiffany of Milan, MN;
grandchildren, Daniel (Megan) Brandel, Mary Frances Brandel, Bethany Brandel, Emily (Sheldon) Swan, Adam Tiffany, MaryCatherine (Kerry) Hlebain;
siblings, Thomas Hager of Mankato, MN; Michael (Patricia) Hager of Good Thunder, MN; Diane Schweiss of Hector, MN; and Rita (Ted) Wolfe of Mankato, MN;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Logan and Anastasia Hager; sister-in-law, Helen Hager; and brother-in-law, Raymond Schweiss.
