Service Information
Mary S. Anderson, age 87, of Hutchinson, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018, at Harmony River Senior Living in Hutchinson, Minnesota.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at New Journey United Church of Christ with interment at Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church.
Memorials are preferred.
Obituary
Mary S. Anderson was born on April 15, 1931, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Spencer and Alice (Hosmer) Stearns. Mary was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She received her education in Hutchinson, and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School Class of 1949. Mary graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, in 1953, earning her B.A. in Spanish.
On December 23, 1953, Mary was married to Kenneth Anderson at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Kim, Jean and Steve. Kenneth and Mary resided in Hutchinson.
Mary was employed as an Administrative Assistant at Ridgewater College from 1979 to 1989. She was very passionate about volunteering at the McLeod Alliance for Victims of Domestic Violence. Mary was also a member of New Journey United Church of Christ.
Mary enjoyed playing piano, music, reading, traveling, and her PEO sisters. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
Mary passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, at the age of 87 years.
Mary is survived by her:
Daughter, Kim Schutt and her husband, John, of Hutchinson, MN;Daughter, Jean Anderson of Minneapolis, MN;
Son, Steve Anderson and his wife, Ellen, of Eau Claire, WI;Grandchildren, Abby Schutt, Elaine Anderson, and Brady Anderson;
Many other relatives and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents, Spencer and Alice Stearns; brothers, Robert Stearns, Ned Stearns; sisters-in-law Rosella Stearns, Ethne Stearns, and Lillian Stearns; brother-in-law, Neal Anderson; nephew, Donald Stearns; granddaughter, Callie Schutt.

I always admired Mary and felt she was a good friend as we sang in the church choir. You have my sincere sympathies as you adjust to being without your Mom every day. My mother just passed away in January so I know how it feels.
