Service Information
Mavis E. Peterson, age 88, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Woodstone Senior Living in Hutchinson.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Minnesota, with interment in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Hoffman.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Obituary
Mavis Evonne (Anderson) Peterson was born on November 9, 1935, at her parents’ farm home outside Hoffman, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Henry and Esther (Johnson) Anderson. Mavis was baptized on December 1, 1935, and confirmed May 14, 1950, both at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hoffman. She attended Hoffman Public School all 12 years, graduating from high school in 1953. After high school, she enrolled at St. Cloud State College and received a Provisional Elementary Degree, which allowed her to teach after 2 ½ years of college. She taught in the Breckenridge, Minnetonka, and Richfield, Minnesota, school districts. During the summer, she worked to complete her degree, graduating from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science Degree, a couple of weeks before she and Roger Peterson were united in marriage on July 30, 1960, at Lincoln Lutheran Church in Hoffman. This marriage was blessed with four children: Shelly, Kent, Troy and Beth.
During her married life, Mavis moved 11 times from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Nebraska, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, and finally back to the Minneapolis area in 2000.
Church was very important in Mavis’s life and her service included teaching Sunday School, Bible School, preschool, wedding coordination, quilting, delivering “dinner at your door”, and many hours spent in the church kitchen.
Mavis passed away on August 21, 2024, at Woodstone Senior Living in Hutchinson, Minnesota, at the age of 88 years.
Mavis is survived by her Children, Shelly (Scott) Grorud, Kent Peterson, Troy (Kathy) Peterson, and Beth (Lynn Simpson) Peterson; Grandchildren Kirsten (Jared) Noetzel, Andrew (Kathryn) Grorud, Derek and Sean (fiancée Georgia Wheat) Peterson, Jack, Sophia, and Charlie Peterson; Great-grandson, Soren Noetzel; Sister, Ann Anderson; Sister-in law, ViAnn Pearson; and Brother-in-law, Chuck (Fran) Peterson; Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Roger; Parents, Henry and Esther Anderson; Brothers- and Sisters-in-law, Elroy and Hazel Anderson, Rodger and Dora Anderson, Jerry Anderson; Niece, Marne Anderson; Father- and Mother-in-law, Vincent and Elva Peterson; Brothers- and Sisters-in-law, Dennis and Carmen Peterson, Gary and Ione Peterson, Ginger Peterson, Charles Pearson; Nephew, Jeff Pearson; and Niece, Jenny Pearson.
