Mavis Plath, age 93, of Hutchinson, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Woodstone Senior Living in Hutchinson.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 11:00 A.M., at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00-8:00 P.M., and Wednesday, 8:00-9:00 A.M., at Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Obituary
Mavis Joyce Plath was born on December 6, 1922, on a farm 5 miles north of Stewart, in Collins Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Edward and Lily (Bahr) Fischer. Mavis had two siblings, Harland and Shirley. Mavis was baptized as an infant on January 7, 1923, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 14, 1935, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stewart, Minnesota. She received her education at the Collins Country School in Collins Township, McLeod County. Mavis was good at sports and especially enjoyed playing softball. When Mavis was 13 years old, her mother Lily passed away and Mavis took on the responsibilities of caring for the household. In 1940, her father Edward, married Fern Jorgensen. This marriage blessed Mavis with five siblings, Wayne, June, Roger, Neil, and Dean.
On September 22, 1940, Mavis was united in marriage to LeRoy Plath, by Reverend Kowalske, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two children, Weston and Marlene. Mavis and LeRoy resided in Hutchinson. They shared 51 ½ years of marriage until LeRoy passed away on April 12, 1992.
Mavis was employed at 3M and handled various job responsibilities. She retired from 3M after 33 years of employment. Mavis was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson since 1941.
Mavis enjoyed attending church and church related activities and was a member of Dorcas. She also enjoyed fishing, working in her flower garden, playing cards, Bingo, watching the Minnesota Twins, and relaxing over a cup of coffee with friends. Mavis loved sweets and always had a dish of candy to share with visitors. She cherished spending time with her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Mavis enjoyed life, and was enjoyed by all!
Mavis moved to Prince of Peace Retirement Living in 1995 and was one of the first residents. When she needed more care she moved to Woodstone Senior Living Center and was also one of the first residents at Woodstone.
Mavis passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Woodstone Senior Living Center at the age of 93 years.
