Obituary
Maxine M. Broderius was born on June 1, 1931 in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She was the only child of Virgil and Helen (Schulte) Jorgenson. Maxine was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. She received her education in Hutchinson and was a graduate of the class of 1949. Maxine furthered her education at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska and St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota graduating with a degree in Home Economics in 1953.
On June 12, 1955, Maxine was united in marriage to Lloyd Broderius at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with four children: Rebecca, Richard, Lee, and Jeffrey. Maxine and Lloyd resided and farmed in Melville Township and moved into Hector in 1990. They shared 65 years of marriage until Lloyd passed away on May 27, 2021.
Maxine taught Home Economics in Hector from 1953-1956 and in Buffalo Lake from 1959-1961. She demonstrated Amana microwave ovens in the 60’s and 70’s. She also taught Community Ed classes and planned menus for Headstart. Maxine applied the ‘Home’ part of her degree to create a warm and loving home and the ‘Economics’ part of her degree to focus on the financial aspects of the farming operation.
Maxine was a very active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church serving on many committees and in many leadership roles. She also served at the Conference, Synod, and National levels of the church. Maxine held a position on the Renville County Hospital Foundation Board for many years and was a member of the Renville County Home Economists. She also served on the Peacepipe Girl Scout Council Board.
Maxine liked playing Bridge, going to the Guthrie, and drinking coffee with her friends. She delighted in gathering, hosting, and serving others especially her family. She enjoyed Sundays at Diamond Lake and never passed up an opportunity to go shopping in ‘the Cities’.

I watched the live stream of Maxine’s funeral service. The service and music were beautiful. I am so sorry I wasn’t able to attend it in person.
Susan Jorgenson Andersen says
Maxine was my first cousin on her dad’s side. I always enjoyed visiting at the Jorgenson farm. I learned to ride a bike on Maxine’s bike. I was a bridesmaid at her and Lloyd’s wedding. In later years, my late husband Andy and I went on a wonderful Alaskan cruise with Maxine and Lloyd. Such great memories. To Maxine’s family, I wish you peace.
