Maynard Grochow, age 80, of Gaylord passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord.
Memorial Services will be Tuesday, January 10, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, Dryden Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, with interment in the church cemetery.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Tuesday.
Obituary
Maynard Luverne Grochow was born on December 10, 1936, in Gaylord, Minnesota. He was the son of Frank and Lydia (Schulz) Grochow. Maynard was baptized as an infant on December 25, 1936, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 2, 1950, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, Dryden Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. He received his education at St. John’s Parochial School and the Gaylord High School.
After school, he worked for the Minnesota Highway Department, Engineering Department until 1964 except for the two years in the Army in Germany and the three years in the Army Reserves. He then worked for Rieke Carroll Muller Engineering as a surveyor – construction inspector on projects from Worthington to International Falls for 40 years, retiring in 2004.
Maynard entered active military service on January 9, 1957, and served in the United States Army. He received the Marksman (Rifle), Motor Vehicle Drivers and Mechanics Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. Maynard was Honorably Discharged on December 18, 1958.
On May 25, 1968, Maynard was united in marriage to Sharon Rathmann of Gibbon. After their marriage, the couple lived in Gaylord. Maynard and Sharon shared 48 years of marriage.
Maynard was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville in Dryden Township and held various offices. He was also a member of the Gaylord Sertoma and the G.P.L.
Maynard enjoyed gaming at casinos, hunting, fishing, dancing, jigsaw puzzles, walking, and recycling aluminum cans. In one year he recycled over 16,000 cans. He loved bowling and was the bowling association secretary for about eight years. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, nieces, nephews and many friends.
When he needed assistance with his daily care, Maynard became a resident of Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord on December 22, 2016, and passed away there on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the age of 80 years. Blessed be his memory.
Maynard is survived by his:
Wife, Sharon Grochow of Gaylord, MN;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Maynard was preceded in death by his Parents, Frank and Lydia Grochow; Brother, Wilford Grochow and his wife, Dorothy.
