Melvin Herman Ahlbrecht

Obituary

Melvin Herman Ahlbrecht was born on December 18, 1930, in Glencoe, Minnesota.  He was the son of Herman and Augusta (Vogt) Ahlbrecht.  Melvin was baptized as an infant on December 27, 1930, by Rev. E. Kolbe and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 20, 1945, by Rev. E. Streufert both at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota.  He received his education in Glencoe, Minnesota, graduating with the Stevens Seminary Class of 1949.  Melvin entered active military service in the United States Army on December 17, 1953, and served his country during the Korean Conflict.  He received an Honorable Discharge on December 16, 1955.

On August 10, 1957, Melvin was united in marriage to Leona Redmann by Rev. H. Schwarze at Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton, Minnesota.  Melvin and Leona made their home in Glencoe, Minnesota, until 1967 when they moved to the farm.  Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Mark and Wayne.  Melvin and Leona shared over 59 years of marriage.

Melvin worked at Pinske Construction in Gaylord, Minnesota, and then started farming.  He was a lifelong member at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where he served on many boards.  Melvin was also on the board for AAL now called Thrivent.

Melvin took great pride in his farm.  He treasured family above all and loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great grandson.  Melvin enjoyed helping his family on their remodeling projects and also loved to fish and travel with them and friends. 

Melvin passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 18 days.
