Obituary
Mildred Mae (Kohls) Braun was born on June 19, 1928, in Cedar Mills Township, Meeker County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Herman and Martha (Wojahn) Kohls. She was baptized as an infant at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Cedar Mills, on July 22, 1928, by Reverend Hinderer and later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 6, 1941, by Reverend Schulze at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
Mildred grew up on her family’s farm south of Cedar Mills and attended Rural School District 55 until her family moved to a farm in Collins Township in McLeod County and then attended Rural School District 36. She continued her education at Hutchinson High School, graduating in 1946. She was employed at the Hotel Jorgenson restaurant during her senior year of high school and for the next six years.
On September 25, 1949, Mildred was united in marriage to Wilbur Braun at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson by Reverend Kohler. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters: Bonnie, Linda, and Becky.
Wilbur and Mildred made their home in Hutchinson throughout their marriage, except for two years during the Korean War when they lived in Alexandria, Virginia, while Wilbur was stationed at Fort Belvoir with the United States Army. While there they spent many weekends touring Washington, D.C., New York City, and other places of interest in the East. Mildred continued working for a short time in Alexandria.
After Wilbur’s discharge from the Army they moved back to Hutchinson, started their family, built a new house, and made Hutchinson their home from then on. Mildred enjoyed her role as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. They shared 24 years of marriage before Wilbur passed away on January 5, 1974.
Spring was Mildred’s favorite time of year when she would care for her garden and plant her many flowers. In her younger years she enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, and dancing. Later she spent time reading, solving crossword puzzles, listening to old-time music, and watching her favorite TV programs. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Blessed be her memory.
