Service Information
Mildred Schroeder, age 96, of Silver Lake, formerly of Hector, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Cedar Crest Estates in Silver Lake.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 1:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookfield Township, rural Hector with visitation at the church two hours prior to the service.
Interment will be held in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Osceola Township, rural Hector.
Obituary
Mildred Emma Schroeder was born October 26, 1918, in Roberts County, South Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Mette Kuehn. She was baptized as an infant, and confirmed in her faith as a youth. Mildred graduated from the Browns Valley, Minnesota, High School.
On November 22, 1937, Mildred was united in marriage to Louis Schroeder. They made their home and farmed north of Bird Island. They later moved to Fergus Falls and farmed there for several years before returning to farm north of Hector. They raised six children. Once the children were all in school, Millie began working as a Nurse’s Aide at the Hutchinson Hospital, eventually becoming an LPN. She worked at several area nursing homes until she retired at age 75! Millie and Louie moved to Hutchinson in the fall of 2000. They had shared 65 years of marriage when Louie passed away in 2002. Millie continued to live in Hutchinson until 2010, when she moved to Cedar Crest Estates in Silver Lake.
Mildred was a member of St John Lutheran Church, Osceola Township until it closed and currently a member at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brookfield Township. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, Sunday School Teacher and later belonged to “Birthday Club” in the Hector area. Baking bread, cooking and feeding people were some of her favorite activities. She was known for her homemade bread and strawberry freezer jam, sharing them with anyone who wanted to come over after church. Her family lovingly called her a ‘food pusher’. Millie loved traveling, visiting family and friends, old time dancing and blue grass music.
On Wednesday morning, December 17, 2014, Mildred passed away at Cedar Crest Estate in Silver Lake, having reached the age of 96 years. She will be dearly missed by her loving family. Blessed be her memory.

Karin McLaughlin of Bradenton, Florida,
Kathi Walberg and her husband Melvin of Monticello, Minnesota,
Clayton Schroeder and his wife Mary Lou of Hector,
Ruth Anne Fredrickson and fiancé Bill of Hutchinson, and
Shar Lamb and her husband Michael of Hutchinson;
14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter;
Sisters: Dorothy (Gordon) McCall of Jefferson, Indiana, and LaVonne Leimer of San Jose, California;
many other relatives and friends.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis, son-in-law, Jack McLaughlin, daughter-in-law Jo Schroeder, five brothers, four sisters, and one great-grandchild in infancy.
