Myrtle Irene (Jensen) Anderson was born on August 26, 1929, in Jackson, Minnesota to Otto and Mary Jensen. She was baptized as an infant at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, and later confirmed in her faith at the same church. Myrtle attended Jackson Public School.
On December 9, 1948, Myrtle was united in marriage to Theodore “Ted” Anderson at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Linda and Diane. Myrtle and Ted shared over 64 years of marriage before Ted’s passing in 2013.
The couple resided in Jackson until the birth of their daughter Linda when they moved to Farmington, Minnesota, where Diane was born. Myrtle worked at the Castle Rock Bank in Castle Rock as a secretary to the president of the bank. In 1962, the couple made a life change and purchased the Head-O-Lake resort on Lake Vermilion in Cook, Minnesota. They later renamed it to Anderson’s Head-O-Lake Resort and the resort is still in operation today after their retirement in 1983.
Along with owning the resort came the ownership and operation of a small general store where Myrtle became known as the pie lady. Guests and local residents would come daily to the lunch counter for a piece of her delicious pie, coffee and good fish stories. In the winter, Myrtle operated an income tax preparation service and served as church secretary for the Covenant Church in Cook for 35 years. She also enjoyed sewing, crafting and other hobby activities.
In 1999, after spending their early retirement in the home they built on Lake Vermilion, the couple returned to their hometown of Jackson. It was there that Myrtle returned to the activities at the Presbyterian Church and reunited with many friends and classmates.
In 2014, after Ted’s passing, Myrtle moved to Orchard Estates in Glencoe, Minnesota to be closer to Linda and Diane. She quickly made new friendships and looked forward to Bingo, and the Sunday evening hand and foot games
