Obituary
Nancy Lou (Nelson) Hennessey was born on March 28, 1956, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Peter and Sumiko Nelson. Nancy was baptized as an infant on February 17, 1957, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 4, 1971.
Nancy’s marriage to Keith Hennessey blessed her with three children, Kari, Michael and Joshua. Although the marriage ended, their friendship and cooperation in raising their children remained. She was blessed with seven grandchildren.
Nancy worked at National Grocery during high school before beginning her longtime 3M career after graduation. Nancy worked at the 3M Company for 37 years. She especially enjoyed her job as a fork lift operator, her last job at 3M prior to retirement. She was awarded several service appreciation awards because of her dedicated and longtime service. Nancy was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. She taught Sunday school for several years and enjoyed her time volunteering at Faith Lutheran Church. She recently joined the Riverside Church family where she faithfully volunteered for Rest Pit, a ministry for families raising children with special needs. Nancy enjoyed praise and worship time, the sermons each week and the family lunches every Sunday.
Nancy loved to travel. Japan, Alaska, Disney World and Montana were a few of her favorite vacations. She was always ready to go on an adventure. Nancy was a wonderful cook. We will miss her meals, special hot dishes that she could “just whip up”, the world’s best macaroni salad and the many desserts she would try out on us.
Nancy spent countless hours caring for her grandchildren, nieces and nephew. She would never give up an opportunity to care for them. She often picked them up, so they could be blessed with a special dinner out or a shopping expedition. Nancy was generous and never complained about being too tired or feeling too sick to have the kids crawl up on her lap.
Nancy passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017, at her home in Hutchinson, at the age of 60 years. Although the last few years were complicated by her fight with diabetes, she never stopped being the loving mother, grandmother and sister that she was to all of us throughout her life. Her greatest joy was always in the giving of gifts. Nancy’s greatest gift to all of us was her innate ability to welcome, love and accept all people. She truly was one of the kindest, most loving individuals any of us have ever known. She will be dearly missed.
Blessed be her memory.

Helen Young says
I am so sorry to hear about Nancy.. The family has my sympathy. I knew your mother and dad. I worked with all three of them at 3 M.
Nancy always came in the store with a smile. No matter what kind of a day she was having. Nancy always had a smile.
