Orlin “Pete” Stockman, age 88, of Glencoe, Minnesota, formerly Plato, Minnesota, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato, Minnesota, with interment following at the church cemetery.
Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017, from 9:30 – 11:00 A.M., 1-1/2 hours prior the service at the church.
Obituary
Orlin “Pete” Alfred Stockman was born on August 23, 1928, in Glencoe, Minnesota. He was the son of Alfred and Annie (Olson) Stockman. Orlin was baptized as an infant on October 7, 1928, by Rev. Eyrich and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on August 23, 1942, by Rev. Bunge both at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato. He received his education in Glencoe and was a graduate of the Glencoe High School Class of 1948. Pete furthered his education by attending the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota, receiving a degree in Agriculture. Pete entered active military service in the United States Army on January 24, 1951, and served his country in Germany. He received an Honorable Discharge on December 23, 1952.
On April 13, 1951, Pete was united in marriage to Marlys Kamann at St. John’s United Church of Christ Church in Bongards, Minnesota. Pete and Marlys made their home in Plato. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Steven, Deborah, and Michael. Pete and Marlys shared nearly 48 years of marriage until Marlys passed away on March 31, 1999.
After Pete’s military service, he worked at Selchow Hardware in Plato, Minnesota. Pete also worked as a manager at the Hamburg Co-op Association in Hamburg and the Lester Prairie Co-op in Lester Prairie. He was a lifelong active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato. Pete served as mayor for Plato and was also a member of the Plato American Legion Post #641, the Plato Fire Department and the Plato Lions for over 30 years having received the Melvin Jones Award.
Pete enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling, playing cards, and the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He adored his grandchildren and loved to attend their school and sport activities, cherishing the time he could spend with his family.
Pete passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 1 day.
