Obituary
Orvilla Germaine Kern Prehn was born on April 21, 1925, at home in Bergen Township, to George Gustave Friedrich Kern and his wife, Lydia Helen Anna (Podratz) Kern. Orvilla was baptized on May 10, 1925, by Reverend J.A. Schert at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Orvilla was confirmed on May 14, 1939, by Reverend Alfred R. Streufert at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe and was given Rev. 3:20 as her memory verse: Behold, I stand at the door and knock, if any man hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him and he with Me.
On June 12, 1946, Orvilla was united in marriage to Marvin John Prehn at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe by Rev. Alfred R. Streufert. The couple farmed outside of Plato until which time, due to Marvin’s health issues, they moved to Glencoe. The union was blessed with four sons, Warren, Ivan, David, and Gary. Orvilla and Marvin shared over 40 years together until Marvin’s passing on March 31, 1987.
Orvilla was active in the Ladies' Aid at St. John’s church in Plato as well as the Guild at Good Shepherd Church in Glencoe. She enjoyed the farm life, planting a giant garden, and playing ball with the boys. Orvilla enjoyed watching the boys grow up and play sports. Then came her grandchildren and she spent time watching them as well and had the same enthusiasm cheering them on. Orvilla worked at the Super 8 Motel for 23 years. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, drinking hot coffee, spending time with her grandchildren, and most of all her – Quilting.
Blessed be her memory.

What a spunky lady!!! When we lived close to her on Dogwood we were always amazed by her shoveling, snow blowing & lawn mowing! She always seemed about 30 years younger than her years!
She also was so much fun to visit with!
She was so very proud of her family!
You all have our sympathy in the loss of the matriarch of your family.

Our condolences and prayers for comfort in Orvilla’s passing. She was in a room near my mom’s (Dorothy Rose) and they ate together at the same dining table at GlenFields. Orvilla always returned a smile when greeted. Sorry we were not able to make it to her services. May your fond memories keep her close in your hearts.
