Service Information
Orville Arnold Kuiken, age 90, of Apple Valley (formerly of Hutchinson) passed away on Monday, January 11th, 2016 at Ecumen Seasons at Apple Valley.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, at 11:00 A.M., at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson with Interment in Oakland Cemetery at a later date. Military Honors by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Obituary
Orville Arnold Kuiken was born on May 11, 1925, in Sioux Center, Iowa. He was the son of Frank and Mary (Langerock) Kuiken. Orville was baptized as an infant, at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, at the First Reformed Church in Maurice, Iowa. He received his education in Sioux Center and Maurice, Iowa.
Orville entered active military service in the United States Army on January 30, 1945, at Fort Snelling Minnesota, and served his country during World War II. He received an Honorable Discharge on November 21, 1946, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Orville received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.
On November 19, 1946, Orville was united in marriage to Harriet DeJong at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with three children, Phyllis, Donna and Paul. Orville and Harriet resided in Everly, Alton, and Sioux Center, Iowa, and later moved to Hutchinson, Minnesota in 1960. Orville and Harriet shared 69 years of marriage.
Orville was employed at the Sioux Center Utilities Company and later Superintendent of Natural Gas in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He retired in 1985. Orville was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. He was also a member of Sioux Center VFW Post #6129, the Christian Business Men's Fellowship in Hutchinson and the Hutchinson Rotary Club.
Orville enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, horseshoes and working on puzzles. Orville and Harriet spent their winter months in Arizona. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
When Orville needed assistance with his daily care he became a resident of Prairie Senior Cottages in Hutchinson. On January 2, 2014, Orville moved to Ecumen Seasons at Apple Valley in Apple Valley, Minnesota. He passed away there on Monday, January 11, 2016, at the age of 90 years.

Orville is preceded in death by his Parents, Frank and Mary Kuiken; Sister, Margaret Dykshorn and her husband Ed, Twin Brother, Stanley Kuiken; Brothers, Dave Kuiken, Bud Kuiken; Brothers-In-Law, Arie Colenbrander, Howard Ruisch.
