Orville Gaylord Olson, age 89, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 23, 2016, at 10:30 A.M., at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Minnesota, with interment at the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
Visitation will be Monday, one hour prior to the service at the church in Hutchinson.
Military Honors by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad.
Arrangements are with the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson.

Obituary
Orville Gaylord Olson was born on November 7, 1926, in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota. He was the son of Emil and Martha (Halgerson) Olson. Orville was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth at West Zion Lutheran Church in Langhei Township. He received his education in Route Country School in Langhei Township. He continued his education in Benson, Minnesota, and graduated from Benson High School Class of 1943.
Orville entered active military service in the United States Army on March 30, 1945, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, and served his country during World War II. He was stationed in Tokyo, Japan, and worked under General MacArthur. Orville received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge on December 4, 1946, and achieved the rank of Sargeant TEC 4.
On July 7, 1951, Orville was united in marriage to Deloris Berg, in Glenwood, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three daughters, Sharon, Charlotte and Karen. Orville and Deloris resided in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. After retirement, Orville and Deloris moved to Lake Washington in Meeker County, Minnesota. They spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. In 2002, they moved to Hutchinson, Minnesota. Orville and Deloris shared 65 years of marriage.
In his younger years, Orville worked in construction in North and South Dakota. After he moved to Minnesota, he worked for Minnesota Rubber in St. Louis Park, for 33 years. He retired in 1989. Orville was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
Orville enjoyed fishing, golfing, bird watching, being outdoors, and camping (especially when the kids were younger). He also enjoyed playing cards (Canadian Rummy), bowling and going to the casino. He especially cherished spending time with grandsons, family and friends.
When Orville needed help with his daily care, he became a resident of Harmony River Living Center on March 13, 2016. He passed away there on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the age of 89 years.

Grandsons, Jon Wolanin of Plymouth, MN, and Josh Wolanin of Minneapolis, MN;
Sister, Marion Dinsmore of Portland, OR;
Sister-In-Law, Lori Olson of Miamisburg, OH;
Many other relatives, family and friends.
Orville is Preceded in death by his Parents, Emil and Martha Olson; 5 Brothers.
