Pearl Edna Ortloff

Obituary

Pearl Edna Ortloff was born on September 17, 1936, at home in rural New Auburn, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Ernest and Lillie (Wolff) Gruer. Pearl was baptized as an infant on November 8, 1936, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota, and later confirmed in her faith as a youth at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 96. She received her education in Glencoe and was a graduate of the Glencoe High School with the class of 1954.

On August 11, 1957, Pearl was united in marriage to Kenneth Ortloff by Rev. W. F. Mueller at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn. Pearl and Kenneth made their home on the family farm just south of  Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with four children; Rhonda, Steven, Keith, and Jon. They shared over 62 years of marriage until Kenneth passed away on June 28, 2020.

Pearl was employed at Security Bank & Trust in Glencoe as a teller, and then at the NorthStar Truck Stop as a waitress. The job she loved most though was being at home caring for her children and helping Kenneth on the farm. Pearl was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County, Minnesota.

Pearl enjoyed bowling in a league at Pla-Mor Lanes in Glencoe. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and canning.  Pearl also enjoyed traveling and country western dancing. Pearl greatly cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.

Pearl passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 3 days. Blessed be her memory.

Pearl is preceded in death by her Parents, Ernest and Lillie Gruer; Husband, Kenneth Ortloff; Father-in-law, and Mother-in-law, Hilbert and Viola Ortloff; Siblings, Gladys Bartels and her husband, Leslie, Marlys Anderson, Elizabeth Bettcher and her husband, Lewis; Nephews, Gary Bartels and Joel Bettcher.
