Obituary

Phyllis Harriet Marlowe was born on June 12, 1946, at home in Hancock, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Edmond and Hazel (Olson) Burns. Phyllis was baptized as an infant on August 25, 1946, at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hancock, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth May 8, 1960, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota. She received her education in Benson, and was a graduate of the Benson High School Class of 1965.

After graduating, Phyllis was employed at 3M, where she met Gary Marlowe. On December 8, 1967, Phyllis and Gary were united in marriage at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfax, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children, “her three beautiful girls”, Kendra Dee, Kathleen Dana and Karena Grace. Phyllis and Gary resided in Hutchinson, Minnesota, and later made their home in rural Hutchinson. They shared 56 years of marriage.

After working at 3M, Phyllis was employed at Victorian Inn as a housekeeper from 1988-1991, Form-A-Feed, and Hutchinson Hospital as a Dietary Aide. She retired in 2009. Phyllis was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Acoma Township, Minnesota.

Phyllis had a strong passion for horses. She loved tending to and caring for her horse, Mighty. Phyllis also enjoyed collecting Breyer Horse figurines, Roy Rogers memorabilia, Cast Iron Horse figurines, and Cardinal Bird figurines. She was talented artistically and enjoyed drawing and painting. Phyllis was a country girl at heart and would often be found building or fixing the horse fence or driving a pick-up truck with a horse trailer behind it. She loved to travel. Her favorite destination being Montana. Phyllis also visited the Roy Rogers Museum in Victorville, California, attended Roy Rogers Funeral in Victorville, and went to the Roy Rogers Museum in Branson, Missouri. In 2010, Phyllis went on a special trip with her three daughters to Black Hills Horse Sanctuary in South Dakota. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to color and draw with them.

Phyllis had many catch words and phrases including, “today is a good day,” “Diet Coke and a smile,” “happy trails,” “happy trails to you,” “partner,” “you’ve got a friend in me,” and “buckaroo.”

Phyllis went to heaven to meet Jesus, Roy Rogers and her beloved horse, Mighty, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at The Estates at Bloomington in Bloomington, Minnesota, at the age of 77 years. She was surrounded by her three girls on her last night bringing her life, love, and her favorite music.
