Obituary
Randall Gene Thalmann was born on October 27, 1946, in Glencoe, Minnesota. He was the son of Arnold and Mildred (Brelje) Thalmann. Randall was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota. He received his education in Glencoe and was a graduate of the Glencoe High School class of 1964. On August 5, 1967, Randall was united in marriage to MaryAnn Hutter at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano, Minnesota and they made their home on the family farm. This union was blessed with one son, Brian. Randall and Mary Ann shared over 56 years of marriage.
After high school, Randall joined his father on their family farm, switching from livestock to only crop production. In the early 1970’s, Randall added the seed business to the farm operation, taking on the name of Thalmann Seeds. Following the death of Randall’s father in 1985, his son Brian became a partner in the operation. Recently, Randall’s grandson Adam also joined the operation. The three generations have enjoyed farming together for the past several years.
Randall was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He was also a member of the Glencoe Jaycees, Glencoe School Board, McLeod Co-Op Power Board of Directors, and the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council.
Besides farming, Randall enjoyed daily drives in his John Deere Gator to check the fields, going with Mary Ann in his 1959 Chevy Impala to car shows and Classic Car Roll-Ins, designing his rock garden and flower landscapes, studying the farm and family history, participating in country dancing with Mary Ann, and drinking his daily Pepsi.
