Raymond Jilek, age 91, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Memorial Services will be held Monday, December 21, 2015, 11:00 A.M. at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Silver Lake, Minnesota.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Sunday, December 20, 2015, from 2:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, Minnesota. KC Rosary will be held at 2:00 P.M. and Parish Prayers will be held at 5:30 P.M. Visitation will continue Monday from 9:00 - 11:00 A.M., at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel.
Obituary
Raymond “Ray” Michael Jilek was born on September 29, 1924, in Rich Valley Township, McLeod County, Silver Lake, Minnesota. He was the son of Frank and Frances (Bednar) Jilek. Raymond was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth. Raymond attended District 29 Country School thru the 8th grade and graduated from the class of 1942 at Stevens Seminary in Glencoe, Minnesota.
On September 26, 1944, Raymond was united in marriage to Alice Marie at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Holy Family) in Silver Lake, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with ten children, Carol, Betty, Larry, Brad, Jim, Mick, Sandi, Mike, Steve and Kim. They shared over 71 years of marriage. They made their home in Glencoe and Cokato, Minnesota.
Ray was a farmer and resided just north of Glencoe for over 25 years, raising crops, dairy cattle and other livestock to feed the family. Also, he was a substitute postal service mail carrier for over 20 years. He then went to work at Faribault Foods (Northland Canning), managing their field crop operations, and retired in 1988. He was an active member at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, Minnesota, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree.
Ray was a hardworking family man and committed husband who enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, card playing, woodworking and household projects. He was a skilled “fix-it” guy. He was known for lending a helping hand to family, neighbors and friends. He made time for and made it a priority to spend time with his family and friends. He was a physically tough man who beat stomach and colon cancer when he was 66 years of age. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of perseverance, determination and putting family first.
Raymond passed away on December 15, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 16 days.
