Obituary
Richard Daniel Danielson was born on August 16, 1944, in Litchfield, Minnesota, the son of Burton and Arlene Danielson. Growing up in the home-half of the Hilltop Cafe in Manannah, Minnesota, Richard was known for his helpful, engineering spirit. As a boy, he maintained the town’s population sign and used a handmade wooden plow to clear paths to the local shops. He spent his summers swimming in the Crow River and assisting his father on local egg and milk routes.
Richard received his education at Manannah Public Grade School and Grove City High School, where he was a graduate of the Class of 1962. Upon graduation, he was employed with Hanson Construction in Paynesville before joining the U.S. Air Force on September 7, 1963.as a Radar Engineer. Following his honorable discharge on September 8, 1967, he began working at Univac Computer Company in Roseville as a circuit card troubleshooter and Component Analyst.
On October 26, 1968, Richard and Phyllis (Faber) were united in marriage at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Eden Valley. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Jason, Jim, and Michelle.
On June 9, 1969, Richard began a long career with the 3M Company in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Starting as a plant engineering electrician, he advanced to Contract Coordinator and eventually retired as the Process Metrology Coordinator on June 28, 2001.
In his retirement, Richard’s joys were working on computers, gardening, and fixing things at his house and his children’s homes. They purchased a house in Sierra Vista, Arizona and spent their winters there for 20 years. He always loved communicating with his grandchildren, trying to instill in them the history of our great country and the sacrifices people made to make it what it is today. Above all, God and family were what he valued most in life. He truly loved helping people and will be remembered for his generous heart and his devotion to those he loved.
Richard is survived by:
his loving wife, Phyllis Danielson;
his children, Jason (Sylvia) Danielson, Jim (Gretchen) Danielson, and Michelle (Matt) Midboe;
his grandchildren, Tyler, Natalie, Isabelle, Quentin, Oscar, and Avery;
his brothers, William Danielson and David Danielson;
and a community of countless family members and dear friends.

So sorry to hear of his passing. We worked together at 3M many years, and always had a smile or a good word for me.
Mary Holmquist Saboe says
To Phyllis and Family, also to Sandi and Bill: Please accept my deep condolences as you mourn your loss and also celebrate the great life Richard created for himself and his family. I met Richard in 7th grade at Grove City High School. We were classmates through graduation in 1962. He and Leighton were the go-to guys in our class, always upbeat, energetic, and fun. But I feel I really did not know Richard until talking with him at our class reunions. What a remarkable man he became: successful with a loving, beautiful wife and family. At those reunions, Richard was always so generous to his classmates and so modest about himself and his own stellar accomplishments. I will always remember him fondly and treasure our talks at reunions, good memories all. Sincerely, Mary (Holmquist) Saboe Grove City High School Class of 1962
