Obituary
Richard “Dick” Henry Gebhardt was born on August 15, 1950, in Glencoe, Minnesota. He was the son of Leonhard and Rosa (Bartels) Gebhardt. He was the 4th of 6th children. Richard was baptized as an infant on September 3, 1950, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 17, 1964, both at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He received his elementary education at First Lutheran School in Glencoe, grades 1-4. He transferred to the Glencoe Public Schools and graduated with the Glencoe High School class of 1968. Richard was an active member of the Glencoe FFA throughout the years. During the summers, Richard would help out around the family farm and help the neighbors cut and bale hay.
The winter following graduation, Dick worked for the City of Glencoe, where he assisted in setting up an engine that would supply the city with power. Dick enjoyed showing horses at the surrounding county fairs. It was at one of these shows, that he met his wife, Dianne. On April 18, 1974, Dick was united in marriage to Dianne Lentsch. After their marriage, the couple resided in Glencoe, on the farm. Soon thereafter, Dick and Dianne purchased the Gebhardt Family Farm. Their marriage was blessed with two children, William “Bill” and Amanda “Mandy.”
Dick and Dianne’s farming operation included crop farming, raising beef cattle, and spending numerous hours in the dairy barn milking cows. Dick also raised and bred Quarter Horses for a number of those years. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association for 45 years. Dick served as a deacon at First Evangelical Lutheran Church for 8 years and he was a proud member of the McLeod County Mounted Police Posse for 4 years.
One of Dick’s greatest joys was to join his brother, Paul, in Alaska, to hunt elk, moose, caribou, bear, and deer. Team roping with his wife, Dianne, was a special memory he held close to his heart. Dick enjoyed playing sheephead and socializing with friends during the winter season and shooting trap during the summers. Dick cherished spending time with his family, especially the time with his granddaughters, Jurney and Paizley. He loved to take them fishing, watch them ride their ponies, and teach them the tricks of the trade.

I am sorry for your loss. I went through school with Dick, but I haven’t seen him since graduation. I remember him as a friendly guy that didn’t have a mean bone in his body, and he was just one of those people that was difficult not to like.
