Obituary

Richard Neil Hopp was born on January 20, 1952, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He was the son of Herman and Myrtle (Pederson) Hopp. Richard was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith as a youth at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookfield Township, rural Hector, Minnesota.  He received his education in Cosmos and was a graduate of the Cosmos High School Class of 1970.

Richard enlisted in the United States National Guard in June of 1970, and was honorably discharged on June 29, 1976, in Litchfield, Minnesota. He achieved the rank of PFC and operated heavy equipment.

On October 16, 1971, Richard was united in marriage to Marcene Pessek, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookfield Township, rural Hector. This marriage was blessed with three children, Travis, Neil, and Becky. Richard and Marcene resided in Cedar Mills, Meeker County. They shared 44 years of marriage.

In 1973, Richard started and operated with his sons; Dick Hopp & Sons Excavating. Richard was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookfield Township. He was also a member of the Cedar Mills Lions Club #34503 in Cedar Mills, and the American Legion Post #126 in Cosmos.

Richard enjoyed camping and listening to old time and country music. He took pride in the work he did in the family business. Richard cherished the time he spent with family, grandchildren and friends.

Richard passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, at the age of 64 years.

Many other Nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his Parents, Herman and Myrtle Hopp, Brother Curtis “Butch” Hopp.
