Robert Kingsley Allen

Obituary

Robert Kingsley Allen was born November 2, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Alwin and Viola (Lundstrom) Allen. He was baptized as an infant, and confirmed in his faith as a youth. Bob, as he was commonly known as, grew to the age of 15 years while living in Minneapolis. His family then moved to a farm in rural Hector. Bob has been a member of the Palmyra Covenant Church since that time. He graduated from the Hector High School with the Class of 1951.

On August 9, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Ruth Lange in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. They made their home in Hector where they raised their nine children. Bob and Ruth had shared 63 years of marriage when Ruth passed away on June 21, 2016.

Bob was inducted into the United States Army on September 12, 1952, a month after he and Ruth were married. He served 1½ years overseas in Germany. He received his Honorable Discharge on September 1, 1954, having attained the rank of Corporal (T).

Bob returned home to Hector and his family. He worked as a carpenter for Donald Wannigman of Bird Island, and also in farming with Butler and Olson Farming of rural Hector. Bob then started a whole new career, working 28 years as a custodian for the BLHS School District. He retired in 2012.

Bob loved wood crafting, and built many projects over the years. Fishing was his favorite pastime, and he spent many hours on the lake. He enjoyed many family fishing trips. He also loved deer hunting. Bob was great at fixing things, and loved tinkering with lawn mowers and bicycles. He was always fixing one of the kids’ projects. He truly loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Robert spent the last few weeks of his life at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center. He passed away there on Saturday, June 15, 2019, with his family by his side guiding him to heaven, at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 13 days. Blessed be his memory.

26 Great-Grandchildren: Haley, Hannah (Ryan), Emily, Hayden, McKenna, Noah, Douglas, Ayden, Makiala, Tiani, Takoda, Ava, Delilah, Danica, Addison, Bailey, Isaac, Olivia, Ryley, Brooklyn, Madden, Kalby, Shea, Brennen, Ryder, and Ridgely;

Sisters-in-law, Barbara (Chris) Johnson and Dorothy Zenner, all of Hutchinson, MN;

many other relatives and friends.
