Service Information
Rosella “Rosie” Blad, age 93, of Hector, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at the Palmyra Covenant Church in Palmyra Township, rural Hector, with interment in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Obituary
Rosella Marie Blad was born December 16, 1921, on the family farm in Palmyra Township, Renville County, Minnesota, the daughter of Erick and Ida (Hallquist) Anderson. She was baptized at Palmyra Covenant Church in rural Hector where she remained a faithful member throughout her life. Rosella grew up in Palmyra Township where she attended District 91 rural school. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Farm School.
At the start of World War II, Rosella bid farewell to Herbert Blad as he left to serve four years in the U.S. Army. He returned in 1945, and they were united in marriage on June 7, 1946, at Palmyra Covenant Church. They made their home on the farm Rosella grew up on, and when her father, Erick, retired, Herb and Rosie purchased the farm. They were blessed with four children, Steven, Keith, Susan, and Russel. Rosella worked beside Herbert on the farm, and gardened vegetables and flowers. She loved her large rock garden full of flowers.
In 1963, Rosella was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which changed her life. Rosie lost the ability to walk at the same time son Russel, at age 3, broke his leg. They learned to walk again together.
Rosella was a faithful lifetime member of Palmyra Covenant Church. She was a great cook, and enjoyed having coffee with friends and family. She dearly loved her family.
When Rosella needed additional care in 2009, she moved to the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center. She passed away there on Thursday afternoon, May 7, 2015, having reached the age of 93 years. Blessed be her memory.

Keith Blad and his wife Pam of Darwin, Minnesota,
Susan Blad and husband Bill Schwanke of Glencoe, Minnesota,
Russel Blad of Darwin, Minnesota;
Grandchildren: Sarah (Brett) Robinson of Chicago, Darcie (Luke) Braaten of Litchfield, Ryan (Jennifer) Blad of Lake Lillian, Austin Blad of Bird Island;
Great-grandchildren: Sydney, Grace, Stella, and Brynnley Braaten; Sylvia and Vivienne Robinson; Connor and Avery Blad;
Many Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Rosella was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Herbert Blad, Grandson Aaron Renstrom, Siblings: Bernice Johnson, Hazel Ahl, Russell Anderson, Gladys Nakken, Elaine Mathiason.
