Obituary
Roselyn Peterson, a cherished matriarch and devout Catholic, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024, at home in Hutchinson surrounded by her family.
Born in Hector, Minnesota on August 27, 1942, to Joseph and Ann Schmidt, her life was emblematic of the virtues of family, faith, and the richness of human connections. Growing up alongside her six siblings: JoAnn Lykins, Patricia Richards, Mary Kopelke (Kevin), TJ Dunlap, Joe Schmidt (Maryne), and Susie Stewart (Lani), Roselyn experienced the joys and trials of a large family, instilling in her a deep appreciation for the values she would cherish and uphold throughout her life. It was where her quick wit, sense of humor, fun-filled and competitive spirit were embedded and burnished. Until the end, she would light up the room with love and laughter, like few can.
Her educational journey through St. Boniface Catholic School, Stewart High School and Mankato State University provided a strong foundation for her notable, award winning career in sales and real estate, leading her to excel as the Vice President of Sales for the Taylor Investment Corporation.
On August 30, 1997 she married her beloved soulmate, DuWayne Peterson. This marriage welcomed their 6 children, Cindy (David Finn), Scott (Vicki Dols), Sean (Stacey Herron) and Shane (Lisa O’Leary), Tim (Vanessa Peterson) and Susan (John Bonenfant), to their new family. Blending their two families into one harmonious unit was incredibly important to Roselyn and DuWayne, and they were devoted to creating a home filled with love, respect, and shared values, ensuring that all of their children felt part of a single, loving family. Together they set the example of living a life of love, adventure, and steadfastness through their travels to family events, frequent fishing trips, gatherings at the lake house on Stella and their daily morning, very competitive cribbage games.
Roselyn made their home a constant beacon of warmth and joy, where she welcomed their 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, into a world filled with shared meals, engaging stories and playful competition. Her annual “Grandma Camp” and special Grandma Roz excursions are legendary providing cherished experiences that will embed her in the hearts of her grandkids for the rest of their lives.
Her life was deeply intertwined with her faith. As an active and committed member of St. Anastasia Church, she contributed significantly to the Adoration Committee and church initiatives, embodying her belief in the transformative power of faith and prayer.
Roselyn leaves behind a legacy of love and family, survived by her husband, Duwayne Peterson, her six children, 21 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her siblings, along with cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ann Schmidt, and brothers-in-law Keith Richards, Ed Lykins, and JW Dunlap. Roselyn's life was a testament to the power of faith, the depth of love, and the strength of family bonds. Her memory will forever be a source of inspiration and comfort to all who knew her.

Katie and I count ourselves fortunate to have known Roz and to spend time with her when she traveled to Florida to visit with Scott, Vicki, and the girls. Katie especially enjoyed playing cribbage with Roz (even when Roz beat her!). Roz was a joy to be around! We will miss her beautiful smile and wonderful laugh! Our deepest condolences to her entire family and to her church community. May she Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory!
In sympathy,

Cindy,
I am sending you much love and appreciation for all that you have continued to do for the School of Nursing at St Kate’s and for myself as you were going through this difficult time with your family and the loss of your mother. Sending much care and compassion your way as you continue to navigate the waters of loosing a loved one to the the other side of the veil. You amazed me as you devoted yourself to the care of your mother in her last days and weeks. Your commitment and stamina of spirit to all that was calling for your time and attention was unparalleled. May you find rest and peace in the days ahead that you were an amazing daughter in the highest sense of the word.
Blessings to you and all in your family,
Much love,

Oh sweet and sassy Ros. I’m sad to hear this news. I loved chatting with her and helping book their travels in the last years, mainly for family events. I marveled at the dedication to be at all of the important moments no matter where in the country it took place. Classy and confident with some great jewelry and usually wearing a pair of very awesome glasses, I admired her, she knew what she liked. I will miss getting a call from Ros needing a flight “first class and not row 1”. She was so proud of her kids and grandkids. My deepest sympathy to you all. DuWayne, a big hug for you.

Cindy and family,
First, Cindy you look so much like your mom! What a beautiful woman. After reading your mom’s obituary I kept thinking how blessed those were who knew your mom, and that those of us who did not know her really missed out. She was an incredible woman, mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend with many who loved her. Remember grieving is a journey and the pain from grieving is only present due to the love you had for her and she had for you as without that incredible love, there would be no pain.
Thinking of you and your family as you grieve and process your immense loss.
