Sandra Jean Tibbits, age 70, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017, at her home in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 1, 2017, 1:30 P.M. at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. at Christ Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior the service on Sunday.
Obituary
Sandra Jean (Cornell) Tibbits was born on February 24, 1947, at the John Swenson Memorial Hospital in Canby, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Leonard and Judith (Johnson) Cornell. She was baptized as an infant on April 27, 1947, at First Lutheran Church in Gary, South Dakota and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 18, 1961, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby, Minnesota. Sandy received her education in Canby graduating with the Class of 1965 and furthered her education at the Willmar Vocational Technical School in Willmar, Minnesota.
On June 10, 1967, Sandy was united in marriage to Robert Tibbits at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, in Canby Minnesota. Sandy and Robert made their home first in Brookings, South Dakota, before moving to Minneapolis. In 1972, the couple relocated to Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Jason and Ryan. This year, Sandy and Robert celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Sandy worked for the McLeod County Highway Department as an office manager as well as the McLeod Coop Power Association. She was a faithful member at Christ Lutheran Church and gave of herself in the Senior Choir, the Lay Ministry, the Outreach Committee, and served as a Sunday School Superintendent. Sandy loved her community and it was evident in the many organizations that she devoted her time to including Mrs. Jaycees, Home Extension, Newcomers, Red Hat Society, board member of the Glencoe Concert Series and past chair of the school post prom party.
Sandy had many interests and loved doing them with her friends and family. She enjoyed walking, golfing, hiking, biking, Jazzercise, yoga and traveling. Sandy loved watching her grandsons’ sporting activities, wintering in Arizona and all the memories made at the Lake Koronis Cabin.
Sandy died peacefully with her family by her side after a courageous 4 year battle with ALS on Monday, September 25, 2017, at her home in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 1 day. Blessed be her memory.

Husband, Robert Tibbits of Glencoe, MN;
Sons, Jason Tibbits and his wife, Sara, of Litchfield, MN,
Ryan Tibbits and his wife, Lisa, of Medina, MN;
Grandchildren, Samuel and Maxwell Tibbits, Carter and Hayden Tibbits;
Sisters, Cynthia Cleveland and her husband, James, of Canby, MN,
JoAnn Chaplin and her husband, Maurice, of Marshall, MN;
Brothers-In-Law and Sisters-In-Law;
Nieces, Nephews, Other relatives and many friends.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Judith Cornell.
Memorials would be preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, ALS Association of MN or Allina Hospice.

So sorry for your loss. I wasn’t very close to Sandy, but she was so kind & inviting when I did meet her. I lost my husband this spring and though he also had been sick for awhile, the emptiness is still there. May the good Lord wrap his arms around you and your family.
