Obituary
Shelly Nicole Mielke passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026 at Meeker Manor Care Center in Litchfield, Minnesota, following a long and brave journey with cancer. She was preceded in death by grandparents Mayhue and Verel (Rollins) Blaine, and Reuben and Verna (Bennett) Mielke; and father, Bruce Mielke.
She will be sadly missed by mother, Margaret (Meg) (Blaine, Mielke) Corrigan; brothers, Mike Arnson and Marty Ploski; sister Lisa (Frandle) Smith; children Austin Colon, and Jenna Mielke; grandchildren Scarlett Mielke Stone and Xander Mielke Stone; and other family and friends.
Born in Duluth, Minnesota on January 8, 1971, Shelly spent her early life in that city. At the age of 13, she joined the family of Meg (Blaine, Corrigan) and Bruce Mielke where she remained until her graduation from Brownton High School. Shelly lived and worked at several jobs in Hutchinson, Minnesota, until being hired at the Hutchinson Runnings store where she remained for over 20 years. She then began caring for her beloved grandchildren, Scarlett and Xander before and after school and in the summers. These were some of the happiest years of Shelly’s life.
Shelly will be remembered for her generous heart, for her welcoming of many old and new friends into her home when they needed a temporary place to be, and for her acceptance of people for who they were. Shelly’s brother Mike lived in her house for several years before she passed away. He became a great help to Shelly and the two embarked on many projects such as repairing their cars after watching YouTube videos to learn what they needed to know.
Shelly loved animals, especially cats, and most especially Goatee 1 and 2. She also had several dogs through the years as well as an aquarium with many varieties of fish. She dutifully fed the wild birds year-round, and she loved to garden in pots outside her house. When she took care of her grandchildren, she played games with them and kept them entertained inside and out. When she needed a quiet day, they had “movie time,” lying on blankets in front of the television with snacks and drinks. She loved her grandchildren beyond measure.

I am so unbelievably sad to hear the news of Shelly’s passing. I got to know her through the years as she’d come into my office to pay her bill, but more so to chat, tell stories and make me laugh. She was one of those people who felt like your best friend once you met her. She was truly one of a kind. I will be lifting your family up in prayer as you grieve the loss of this remarkable lady.
