Sylvester “Bess” Fahey, age 81, of Fairfax passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 19, 2018, 10:30 A.M. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax with interment in the church cemetery. Military Honors by the Fairfax Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Monday, June 18, 2018, from 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. Parish Prayers will be at 7:30 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Obituary
Sylvester “Bess” John Fahey was born on March 1, 1937, in Fairfax, Minnesota. He was the son of James and Eleanor (Kachelmaier) Fahey. Bess was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. He received his education in Fairfax and was a graduate of the Fairfax High School Class of 1955.
Bess was a member of the Minnesota National Guard.
On November 26, 1977, Bess was united in marriage to Helen Riederer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After their marriage, the couple resided in Fairfax. They were blessed with two children, Betsy and Rae Ann. Bess and Helen shared 40 years of marriage. Bess was employed by Jerome Fahey Tiling for 40 plus years, Guide Craft in Winthrop and Steve Henderson Ag Systems in Fairfax.
Bess was an active member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax.
Bess enjoyed splitting wood, spending time outdoors, gardening, motorcycling, and sitting on the deck watching jet airplanes flyover. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Bess passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Fairfax Community Home at the age of 81 years. Blessed be his memory.
Bess is survived by his:
Wife, Helen Fahey of Fairfax, MN;
Children, Betsy Rieke and her husband, Dan of Fairfax, MN, and
Rae Ann Marti and her husband, Scott of Fairfax, MN;
Grandchildren, Adam Rieke, Tristan Rieke, Hannah Marti, and Keith Marti;
Sister-In-Law, Pat Fahey of Fairfax, MN;
Many Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bess was preceded in death by his Parents, James and Eleanor Fahey; Sister, Elaine Fahey in infancy; Brothers, Jerome (Ada) Fahey and James Fahey.
