Thelma Nierengarten, age 101, of Winthrop, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 29, 2019, 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Winthrop with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be Monday, July 29, 2019, 10:00 A.M. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Winthrop.
Obituary
Thelma May Nierengarten was born on May 1, 1918, in Wood Lake, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Floyd F. and Marjorie (Hannah) Hall. Thelma was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education in Winthrop and received her BA at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
On June 30, 1938, Thelma was united in marriage to Robert Nierengarten in Winthrop, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple resided in Winthrop. Thelma was employed as the Secretary at the Midland Gas Plant, Owner and operator of the Drive-In for 14 years, and taught piano lessons for 30 years. Thelma and Robert were blessed with three children. They shared 25 years of marriage before Robert passed away on October 9, 1963.
Thelma was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Winthrop and was the church organist for 65 years.
Thelma enjoyed reading, music, traveling, writing, and poetry. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
When she needed assistance with her daily care, Thelma became a resident of Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord and passed away there on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at the age of 101 years. Blessed be her memory.

Grandchildren, Robert Bjorklund and his wife, Katye of Hermon, ME, Joseph Bjorklund and his wife, Carolyn of Menomonee Falls, WI, Jill Nierengarten of St. Louis Park, MN, Leigh Nierengarten of St. Louis Park, MN, Catherine Bjorklund and Brian Carlson of Bloomington, MN, Adam Meyer of Shakopee, MN, Erin Turcotte and her husband, Scott of Shakopee, MN, Bethany Daniel and her husband, Brandon of Shakopee, MN, Brinna Paradise and her husband, Phil of Chaska, MN;
10 Great Grandchildren;
3 Step Great Grandchildren;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Thelma was preceded in death by her Husband, Robert Nierengarten; Sister, Jean Barfknecht; and Grandchildren, Twin boys Nierengarten.
