Thusnelda “Toots” Alma Selma Vollmer

Obituary

Thusnelda “Toots”  Alma Selma (Ellig) Vollmer was born on January 6, 1926, in Brownton, Minnesota.  She was the daughter of Frank and Ida (Draeger) Ellig.  Thusnelda was baptized as an infant on January 31, 1926, by Rev. George Diemer at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Brownton, Minnesota, and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 17, 1940, by Rev. Hans Werner at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn, Minnesota.  She received her education at District 16 Country School and graduated from Brownton High School in 1945.

On July 21, 1946, Toots was united in marriage to Alwin Vollmer by Rev. Streufert at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church parsonage in Glencoe, Minnesota.  Toots and Alwin made their home in Glencoe, Minnesota.  They were blessed with three daughters, Gloria, Cherrie and Beverly.  Toots and Alwin shared over 35 years of marriage, until Alwin passed away on November 19, 1981.   

She worked at Al’s Restaurant in Glencoe, and then worked as a cook in the Glencoe High School for 26 years. After she retired she worked the concession stands for baseball games at Vollmer Field. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and also the Glencoe VFW Auxiliary Post 5102.

Toots loved to play cards and bingo. She treasured the time spent with family and friends. 

Toots passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 1 day.

Step Sisters, Darlene Godel and her husband, Irvin, of Glencoe, MN,
Diane Osmek and her husband, Milan of Burnsville, MN;
Nieces, Nephews, Other relatives and many friends.

Toots is preceded in death by her Husband, Alwin Vollmer, Parents, Frank and Ida Ellig, Parents-In-Law, Henry and Ida Vollmer; Brother, Elmer Ellig and his wife, Alice; Sister, Evelyn Neuhaus and her husband, Jerry; Brother-In-Law, Earl Vollmer; Sister-In-Law, Gladys Hapke and her husband, Wayne.
