Service Information
William “Bill” Lucas, age 89, of Winthrop passed away Friday, December 2, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday, December 7, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, with interment in the church cemetery. Military Honors by the Winthrop Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 6, 2016, from 4:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Obituary
William “Bill” Henry Lucas was born on July 28, 1927, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. He was the son of Martin and Lydia (Uecker) Lucas. Bill was baptized as an infant on August 21, 1927, by Pastor Peter Mueller and was later confirmed in his faith on June 21, 1942, by Pastor Michael Knoll, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township. He received his education at District #51 country school.
Bill entered active military service on February 6, 1953, and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bill was Honorably Discharged in January of 1955.
On January 22, 1966, Bill was united in marriage to Lois Nieland by Reverend John Bradtke at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. The couple had a grain and livestock farm in Bismarck Township. Bill and Lois shared 45 years of marriage and were blessed with one daughter, Martha.
Bill was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township. In his younger years, he served on the church council, cemetery board and was a Deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #314 and the VFW Post #4078 in Winthrop.
Bill loved farming; he could remember dates and numbers from many years. He never fully retired; Bill farmed an 11 acre plot for many years after retiring and also kept a small flock of pet sheep. He was a wonderful husband, father, friend and neighbor.
When he needed assistance with his daily care, Bill became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop on October 10, 2016, and passed away there on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the age of 89 years. Blessed be his memory.

Daughter, Martha Ann Lucas of Plymouth, MN;
Sisters, Lucille Rickert of Brownton, MN, and Jan Draeger and her husband, Chuck of Hutchinson, MN;
Sisters-In-Law, Amy Nieland of Rochester, MN, and Emmy Baer of Kaukauna, WI;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his Parents, Martin and Lydia Lucas; Step-Mother, Lulu Lucas; Wife, Lois Lucas; Sister, Delores Trebelhorn and her husband, Robert; Brothers-In-Law, Donald Baer, Vernon Rickert, and Lavern Nieland.
